How to Care for Aquarium Fish?

it is actually very simple to keep fish in an aquarium. Take adequate measures to care for your fish after you have established the fish tank. There are things that should be done daily to care for fish and some things that need only be done weekly or bi-weekly. The good news is the daily maintenance work for your marine friends will be very simple to do. Take some time to spend a little time with them to detect any signs of unhappiness. Stress seems to have a negative impact on your marine animals and it can cause them to become unhappy and fall sick on the long run. Check to see that all lights and filters on the aquarium are plugged in and functioning correctly. Your fish need to be fed on an everyday schedule. Your fish must be able to consume the food you give them in 2 to 5 minutes. If food is left beyond this time, it will settle into the tank as debris and this will increase the nitrite levels of the tank and become a cause for the sickness of your fish. Keep a weekly monitoring on the pH of the water and its temperature. It is a big mistake to delay making any changes where necessary. It is best to check with the pet store and enquire about the exact pH that is most suitable for your fish. You will need this information as it varies among different species of fish.
You have to spend time to clean the filter too. The waste materials that are produced in the tank due to excretion of the fish are collected in the filters. The filters will eventually fill with debris and be unable to do their job unless they are cleaned. The filter will also allow oxygen to circulate within the tank and not just allow for removal of wastes. With bunged filters, you will not be able to have as good transmission of gases in your tank as you have with clean ones. This can reduce the total volume of oxygen in the aquarium. If left untreated, this could be deadly for your fish. Change the filter on the aquarium every two to three weeks depending on need. As soon as your water begins looking dirty and has an offensive odor, you must clean your filter. Depending on the design of the filter, you will either have to clean it with water or to replace it.
When changing water in the aquarium, do it gradually. See carefully if you have removed the lights and other arrangements from the fish tank before starting to clean it. You must replace roughly a third of the water in the tank with fresh water every week or two. The water that you are adding into the aquarium must be two degrees within the temperature of the aquarium. Ask your pet store owner about the requirements of water for your fish. Some treatments allow the tap water to be ready in as little as an hour, while others need to sit overnight before being added to the tank.
When cleaning the tank, clean from the sides to scrub out any buildup of alga. Your fish should not be troubled in the slightest when you are cleaning the tank. Move the rocks and other decorations of your tank slightly to allow the debris trapped in them to move out. Try to collect this debris when removing the water, either with a bucket or a vacuum type of siphon. Regularly pick out the decaying leaves of the plants in your tank. For cleaning the outer area of the fish tank, just sponging the area with a squeegee soaked in tap water will do. Do not forget to clean the cover of the tank, from the inside and the outside. Plug everything back into the aquarium, sit back and take the pleasure of your newly cleaned aquarium.
